As adults, we all have skills, knowledge, and experiences that are not standard parts of the K12 curriculum. As a result, they may never learn about certain industries, fields and careers. That's where we come in. Through the Experts in the Classroom program, we can be called into a class by teachers to share our relevant interests, skills and knowledge, helping the children learn about the 'real world' at appropriate times of the year. Regardless of your industry or job title, you have a perspective and an expertise that could enhance student learning, show connections between academics and ‘the real world’, or simply expose students to a world beyond academics. For example, when children learn about the general concept of entrepreneurialism - parents who currently own or previously ran their own businesses can be invited to share their experiences. When children learn about civics or government - parents who work in government or at non-governmental agencies, can explain how they have experienced our systems of government, and how they strive to contribute to our society.
The possibilities are endless!
Please fill out the survey below to fill our database with experts who our teachers can call upon throughout the year. This will not be shared with other parents, and will be used for educational purposes only.
